Job Description

Physical Chemistry R&D Scientist-PhD-Internship

Description

P&G utilizes a range of organic compounds and polymers in our cleaning products across our Fabric & Home Care Business. We are seeking expertise in synthetic and physical chemistry to continue to develop new and improved actives that will provide benefits to the consumer through our products with Fabric & Home Care. We have special interest in naturally derived materials and their derivatives. The project focus for this internship is to develop new naturally based materials that work against cleaning and fabric care performance targets that are also biodegradable and stable in products that are sold to the consumer. In addition to molecular design studies, there will also be studies on the physical chemistry and mechanisms from which the material functions against solution and surface benefits (cleaning, care, etc.) and the interaction of the material in product formulations. Additional work will involve biodegradation studies of actives being investigated. The role will involve full documentation and characterization of materials made as well as experiments studying the material's modes of action.

Development of new naturally derived functional polymers to work against cleaning and performance vectors. These materials will be well characterized and studied across different performance vectors.
Development of a structure activity relationship between performance and structure as well as between biodegradation and structure.
One - three leads are identified from the program to advance to consumer testing
Candidate has a working knowledge of laundry formulations (rheology, stability, cost, etc.) and their performance (cleaning, whiteness, scent delivered, etc.).
As a PhD intern at P&G, you will be working on projects that will expand your capabilities (that can be completed within 10-12 weeks) and will be meaningfully related to your classroom and research education. The training and mentoring we provide will represent an unparalleled opportunity for professional and personal growth and the opportunity to explore a career in industry.

At P&G, intern sessions are considered temporary employment, with a predicted ending point. No full-time employment commitments are made; however, depending on satisfactory completion of certain criteria, candidates may be considered for full-time positions upon obtaining their PhD. The preferred period for the 10 to 12 week internship is June to September. The internship is a paid, full-time, 40 hour per week position. Hourly rates are based on the student's academic year completed.
