The position involves the design, synthesis and evaluation of new condensation polymers, often involving preparation of unusual constituent monomers. Knowledge of and experience with typical organic chemical transformations, means of purification and subsequent characterization are required as the position includes significant time spent at the bench. Promising materials are evaluated in performance in consumer goods under a variety of conditions to aid development of structure/property/performance relationships that in turn will inform the design of new polymers. High productivity is expected and familiarity with searching the chemical literature to streamline synthetic approaches is helpful. You will be part of a small team working on new technology approaches to address unmet consumer needs and/or resolve technical tensions, and should possess excellent social skills.

Synthesis and performance evaluation of new polymers including silicones; Synthesis of monomers, as needed

Characterization and purification of synthesized materials. Expertise in NMR and other characterization techniques is a requirement.

Testing the performance of the synthesized materials in consumer products and developing a structure/property relationship.
